SAIS Swim Team Shines at World School Swim Championships 2026

Stamford American International School swimmers finish 3rd overall against 60 schools from five continents, with U11 Boys taking home the Best Boys Team Trophy.

Twenty-six Stamford American swimmers made the trip to London’s iconic Aquatics Centre 8-10 May and came home with a haul of gold medals, a team trophy, and a new school record.

Competing against 60 schools from five continents, SAIS finished 3rd place overall – a statement performance on one of the sport’s biggest international stages. The U11 Boys capped the weekend by securing the Best Boys Team Trophy.

Making History in the Pool

The standout moment came from Miller Ma in the Boys 15 & Over division, who clocked 23.97 seconds in the 50m Freestyle to set a new SAIS school record. It marks the first time a Stamford American swimmer has broken the 24-second barrier. Miller added a silver in the 100m Freestyle (52.45) and another in the 100m Butterfly (57.89), along with a bronze – four podium finishes across the weekend.

Gold Medal Performances

Nate Yu led the medal count with five individual golds in the Boys 10 & Under age group, winning the 50m Freestyle (30.34), 50m Butterfly (32.88), 100m Freestyle (1:08.56), 200m Freestyle (2:28.45), and 200m Individual Medley (2:48.56). Five events entered, five golds won.

Lion Yang matched that dominance in the Boys 11-12 division, taking four golds: the 50m Butterfly (29.78), 100m Butterfly (1:05.12), 200m Butterfly (2:24.34), and 200m Individual Medley (2:28.12). Lion also set three new age group records over the weekend.

Leo Jinxia Yang claimed two golds in the Boys 10 & Under backstroke events – 50m (35.45) and 100m (1:16.23) – while Mujin Kang swept the Boys 11-12 breaststroke with golds in both the 50m (33.89) and 100m (1:14.56).

Emilia Jarama Lescano flew the flag for the girls’ team with a gold in the Girls 10 & Under 200m Freestyle (2:29.99). She added two silvers in the 50m Freestyle (31.12) and 100m Freestyle (1:09.45), setting a new age group record in the process.

Silver and Bronze Highlights

The depth of the team showed across every session. Nils Kullenberg earned silver medals in the 200m Freestyle (2:05.12) and 400m Freestyle (4:28.34) along with a bronze. Nate Yu, Lion Yang, and Louisa Sailer each added further silvers to the team’s total.

In the bronze medal column, Aston Chua delivered a strong 100m Breaststroke (1:12.34), and Nevan Maiti posted a 200m Backstroke time of 2:22.11 – also a new age group record.

Breaking Records Across the Board

Beyond Miller Ma’s historic 50m Freestyle, the team rewrote the SAIS record books in multiple age groups. Nate Yu, Lion Yang (three records), Emilia Jarama Lescano, and Nevan Maiti all set new records that future Stamford American swimmers will chase.
