A Closer Look at Stamford American’s Achievements

This year, Stamford American students distinguished themselves across four prestigious math competitions: the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), the American Mathematics Competition (AMC), the American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO), and the Inter-School Math Competition. These achievements reflect how Stamford American empowers students to discover their strengths, push their boundaries, and excel on prominent academic stages.

Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) 2024-2025

As one of Asia’s largest and most rigorous math competitions, SASMO is open to students from Grades 1 to 12. Designed to bridge the gap between national math assessments and international Olympiads, SASMO challenges students not only in mathematical knowledge but also in logical reasoning and creative problem-solving. It goes beyond memorization, emphasizing deep thinking and analytical skill — an ideal match for the kind of learner Stamford American nurtures.

Stamford American students achieved outstanding results in the latest SASMO:

  • 11 Gold Medals
  • 21 Silver Medals
  • 29 Bronze Medals

With participants representing more than 25 countries, earning a medal in SASMO means standing out in an exceptionally competitive field. The strong performance by Stamford American students reflects not only their mastery of mathematical concepts but also their ability to apply them thoughtfully and remain composed under pressure.

American Mathematics Competition (AMC) – January 2025

Organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the AMC is widely regarded as the entry point for students exploring the world of competitive mathematics. Among its three annual contests, AMC 8 is specifically designed for students in Grade 8 and below. The competition consists of 25 multiple-choice questions to be solved in just 40 minutes — posing a rigorous challenge, even for top-performing students.

In this year’s AMC:

  • Boyu Yang from Grade 7 achieved an Honor Distinction
  • Taida Gotoda from Grade 8 and Peini Li from Grade 7 received Honor Roll recognitions

The AMC is renowned not only for its difficulty but also for setting a global benchmark in mathematical thinking. Prioritizing problem-solving over rote calculation, it encourages students to develop the kind of logical reasoning skills essential for success in fields like science, technology, and engineering. Strong results in this competition indicate that Stamford American students are already operating at an advanced level of conceptual understanding — well beyond typical grade-level expectations.

American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) – November 2024

The American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) is a challenging international competition open to students from Grades 2 to 12. Structured around the U.S. Common Core Standards, the AMO is designed to both test mathematical ability and foster a deeper interest in the subject. In the 2024 edition, Stamford American International School fielded a strong team of competitors who delivered outstanding results:

  • 5 Gold Medals
  • 14 Silver Medals
  • 28 Bronze Medals

Among the standout performers was Grade 5 student Justin Tang, who achieved a perfect score and ranked first both globally and nationally. This extraordinary achievement reflects not only Justin’s exceptional ability, but also the high-level preparation, guidance, and encouragement that students receive at Stamford American.

Inter-School Math Competition – February 2025

This online national-level competition brought together 270 students from schools across Singapore, with Stamford American proudly represented by 62 participants. Our students delivered an exceptional performance, earning the following honors:

  • Stamford American – 1st Place Overall (School Award)
  • Kohei Tada (Grade 8) – 1st Place Individual
  • Xiaohang Shi (Grade 7) – 3rd Place Individual

As part of their recognition, the top achievers were each awarded 2,000 KrisFlyer miles – a unique and exciting reward for excelling in a subject they already love.

Emerging as the overall top-performing school and earning individual distinctions underscores the strength, preparation, and dedication of Stamford American’s math delegation.
