Supporting Every Student to Thrive
Students are more ready to learn, explore and challenge themselves when they feel safe, known and able to ask for help.
At Stamford American International School, pastoral care is part of everyday school life. Academic progress, emotional wellbeing, relationships and personal development are closely connected. Through trusted relationships, age appropriate guidance and clear systems of support, students build confidence, make thoughtful choices and grow in independence.

Pastoral Care
Pastoral care at Stamford begins with relationships. Homeroom and advisory teachers provide regular points of connection, while counselors work closely with students who need additional guidance or support.
Our advisory program and Personal, Social and Health Education lessons help students understand themselves, build positive relationships and respond to challenges as they grow. For older students, counselors also provide support as they prepare for college and life beyond Stamford.
We encourage students and parents to raise concerns early. Stamford operates an open door approach so that conversations can begin and the right support can be put in place when needed. Parent workshops and coffee mornings also give families opportunities to discuss topics such as wellbeing and cyber safety.
Every student should know there are adults at Stamford who will listen, notice and help them find a way forward.
Safeguarding
Every student should feel safe at school and know there is a trusted adult they can speak to about a concern or worry.
Stamford is committed to safeguarding the children and young people in our care. Clear reporting procedures are in place, and staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training. When concerns require additional expertise, we work with parents and external professionals to make sure appropriate support is available.
Our safeguarding responsibilities extend across school life. Teaching and classroom support staff hold basic first aid qualifications, and our campuses are supported by an onsite clinic and qualified nurses. Trips, visits and after school activities are risk assessed, with health and safety considered throughout.
Campus access is carefully managed through 24 hour security, camera coverage, visitor sign in procedures and a color coded lanyard system. Recruitment procedures also follow safer recruitment guidelines, including background and reference checks and a robust interview process.
These systems create the security students need to focus on learning, participate fully and speak up when something does not feel right.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing is central to how students experience school. We want them to understand themselves, build positive relationships and feel confident asking for support when they need it.
Stamford gives students opportunities to reflect on who they are, the values that matter to them and the attitudes that help them grow. Mindfulness and positive education form part of this wider culture of care, keeping personal growth alongside academic development.
Wellbeing also develops through shared experiences. Trips, activities, learning beyond the classroom and everyday relationships help students build independence, respond to challenges and discover more about themselves.
At Stamford, care is not separate from learning. It creates the confidence and security students need to explore, make choices and keep moving forward.
