Preparing Students for What Comes Next
At Stamford American International School, Academic and College Counseling begins in Grade 9, giving students time to explore their strengths, interests and ambitions before university applications begin. Counselors work with students and families as they consider courses, research universities and make informed decisions about the opportunities they want to pursue.
The aim is not to steer every student toward the same destination. It is to give them the information, perspective and confidence to choose what comes next for themselves.
Our Program
College counseling at Stamford is a process of research, reflection and decision-making. Students work individually with Academic and College Counselors to identify priorities, understand university requirements and explore institutions that align with their academic interests and wider goals.
Stamford encourages quality of choice rather than quantity of applications, with students limited to 10 college or university applications worldwide. This gives them reason to research carefully and build a thoughtful university list rather than simply applying as widely as possible.
Students also have access to an onsite SAT test center, with college preparatory testing available for Secondary students from Grade 10.
Where Our Graduates Go
Stamford graduates continue their education at universities around the world, choosing destinations that reflect different interests, ambitions and fields of study.
Between 2022 and 2025, Stamford students received acceptances from universities including the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, UC Berkeley, New York University, UCLA, University College London, National University of Singapore, University of Toronto and University of Melbourne.
Those destinations span the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and other countries, reflecting the breadth of possibilities available to Stamford graduates.
For College Admission Representatives
Stamford welcomes university and college representatives from around the world to meet our students and introduce their institutions. In a typical year, around 200 university representatives visit Stamford, with institutions represented from Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Visits can usually be arranged during the school lunch break from 12:10PM to 1:00PM. August through October is particularly busy, and representatives may occasionally be asked to share a visit slot with another institution.
