World Languages
Building Language Over Time
From the Early Learning Village through Elementary School, students can study Mandarin or Spanish every day. Regular exposure gives them opportunities to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing as their language skills grow.
In Middle and High School, language learning becomes more intensive, with 80-minute sessions every other day. Stamford offers Mandarin, Spanish, Korean and Japanese, with students progressing through different levels according to their proficiency. Older students engage with increasingly complex texts and ideas, developing their vocabulary, writing, discussion and analytical skills alongside their ability to communicate in another language.
English-Mandarin Bilingual Program
Learning Across Two Languages
From Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5, families looking for a more immersive Mandarin experience can choose Stamford's English-Mandarin Bilingual Program.
Students receive 400 minutes of Mandarin learning each week within a program rooted in the IB Primary Years Programme. Bilingual educators make connections between English and Mandarin across learning, helping students build communication and literacy in both languages while continuing with their wider academic curriculum.
English as an Additional Language
English Support That Develops With Your Child
Stamford's English as an Additional Language (EAL) program supports students from KG2 to Grade 10 who are developing their English while continuing with age-appropriate academic learning.
Support is shaped around each student's proficiency and can include EAL specialists working within the classroom, dedicated English Language Acquisition lessons and targeted language development. As English proficiency grows, support can adjust to give students increasing independence across their subjects.
Preparatory Course for Secondary School
Building Academic English for the Next Step
For students in Grades 6 to 10 who need more intensive academic English development before entering Stamford's mainstream Secondary curriculum, PCS is a 20-week, full-time on-campus program.
Students strengthen reading, writing, listening and speaking while studying subjects including Mathematics, Science, Literature and Humanities. This combination helps students develop English in an academic context while becoming familiar with the inquiry-based learning they will encounter at Stamford.
Foundational Academic English
Building the Foundation for Academic English
For students in Grades 6 to 10 who need additional English preparation before PCS, FAE is a 10-week online program.
Students strengthen their academic English while developing familiarity with Stamford's approach to teaching and learning. The program provides an earlier step for students who need more time to build the language foundation required before progressing toward PCS.
