More Choice as the Future Comes Into Focus

At Stamford American International School, High School gives students increasing choice over the subjects and pathways that shape their final years at school.

Students in Grades 9 and 10 continue within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). In Grades 11 and 12, they can choose the full IBDP Programme or build an individualized pathway combining IB Diploma courses, Advanced Placement (AP), BTEC and Stamford courses. All students work toward Stamford’s US-accredited High School Diploma.

This flexibility allows students to make academic choices around their strengths, interests and plans for what comes next.

Ready for the Next Step

High School gives students the academic depth, flexibility and guidance to make informed choices about what they want to pursue after graduation. As they move through their final years, they build the independence and confidence to take those next steps with purpose.

Our Teaching Philosophy

High School learning at Stamford brings together American academic standards and International Baccalaureate frameworks.

American standards provide progression within individual subjects, while the IB approach encourages students to make connections across disciplines and apply their learning to complex questions and real-world contexts.

As students move through High School, they are expected to take greater responsibility for their learning, research, decisions and time. The aim is to build strong academic knowledge alongside the independence needed for university and life beyond school.

Meet the High School Leadership Team

The High School leadership team works closely with students, teachers and families across Grades 9 to 12.

Graduation Pathways

In Grades 11 and 12, students can choose the academic pathway that best reflects their strengths, interests and future plans.

They may pursue the full IBDP Programme, or build an individualized pathway combining Advanced Placement (AP), BTEC International Level 3, individual IB Diploma courses and Stamford courses. Around 40% of students currently choose the IBDP Programme, while 60% follow an individualized pathway.

Whichever route they choose, students work toward Stamford’s US-accredited High School Diploma. Academic and College Counselors work with students and families from Grade 9, helping them understand the options, make informed course choices and prepare for university.

College & University Counseling

Academic and College Counselors work with students and families from Grade 9, helping them consider course choices, graduation pathways and university plans. Support continues through university research, application strategy and the application process.

The Woodleigh Campus

High School students learn at Stamford’s Woodleigh Campus, alongside Elementary and Middle School students.

The campus provides specialist spaces for increasingly advanced academic, creative and practical learning, giving students opportunities to work across science, technology, design, the arts and sport as their subjects become more specialized.

Being based at Woodleigh throughout Middle and High School also provides continuity as students move into their senior years.
