400th Anniversary of Cervantes: Spanish Language & Book Day


On Saturday April 23rd the National Library Board of Singapore hosted the “400th Anniversary of Cervantes: Spanish Language and Book Day” at the Central Public Library. The Opening Speech at the inaugural ceremony was given by Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Osman Maliki, followed by speeches from the Ambassadors of Spanish Speaking countries, Spain, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, México, Peru and Venezuela on their main literary figures.  Stamford American students  - Dhanya Venkatesh, Alfie Padasian, Mandy Huang Yuanyin, Maria de Miguel, Natalie Junker, teachers - Xiomara Cruz and Elena Pertegaz took part in the ceremony, reading from Don Quixote of La Mancha in Spanish, English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. The open door celebration included talks for adults as well as activities for children run by Stamford American students. Check out the photo exhibition on Cervantes and Don Quixote which is running at Central Public Library until 7th of May.
