Early Years Curriculum

How children learn is as important as what they learn. Early Childhood Education forms a foundation for learning as children are introduced to their first experience of school. To develop a positive attitude and thrive as lifelong learners, children need to feel safe, secure, and happy in a nurturing environment. Stamford is proud to be an inclusive school environment in which all children feel invited to play and learn, try and fail, and love and be loved. Trust and security, vital to each child’s success, are developed through an open partnership between home and school.

Stamford American’s early learning preschool curriculum at the Early Learning Village is guided and shaped by USA’s Teaching Strategies Gold and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework which starts at birth and outlines the skills, behaviors and developmentally appropriate milestones to foster the growth of young learners.

Pre-Nursery and Nursery curriculum draws from the USA’s ‘The Creative Curriculum’. In Pre-K, KG1, and KG2 the curriculum is grounded in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) and is integrated with units of inquiry. All units incorporate STEAMInn – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Innovation, to provide our young children with world-class early childhood education. All developmental milestones and student growth is monitored by our teaching staff using Teaching Strategies Gold.

We believe that children learn best through hands-on experiences, in an environment where they are viewed as active participants in their learning. With this in mind, we have developed an education model where everyday moments are aligned to essential discovery learning. These key investigations are woven into the Units of Inquiry as they progress through their years of early learning.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles are used by our Early Childhood team to create accessible, meaningful, and engaging learning. The A UDL approach to preparing learning experiences is based on neuro research and differentiates across a range of abilities, experiences, and home languages.

STEAMInn INTEGRATION

In early childhood, we encourage STEAMInn teaching to integrate these subject areas within a meaningful context.

Our teachers carefully monitor children’s learning by using GOLD ™Assessment system which is an authentic, ongoing observational system for monitoring children’s progress and development. Teachers purposefully record these observations in order to understand each child and make decisions about how to best support his or her development and learning.
