WHO IS BOARDING FOR?

Our boarding program is open to all SAIS Secondary Students from Grades 6 to 12. Boarding is mandatory for all SAIS students in our PCS program whose parents are not residing in Singapore. For SAIS students in the mainstream whose parents are not residing in Singapore, it is strongly recommended.

WHY DOES MY CHILD NEED TO MOVE INTO THE BOARDING HOUSE?

Stamford Boarding Program is run by Stamford American staff and under the school’s direct supervision. We believe that your child will experience a more enriched academic life being part of our boarding program. Being in a boarding house will allow your child to develop resilience and independent living skills that are essential as they prepare for higher education and beyond. Being part of our boarding program also gives them access to a robust social and emotional support system provided by the school community.

WHAT MAKES YOUR BOARDING PROGRAM DIFFERENT FROM OTHER BOARDING FACILITIES AVAILABLE? WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF MY CHILDREN AT THE BOARDING HOUSE?

Residential and boarding staff are members of our Stamford American school community. They are specially appointed to work closely with school faculty and counseling staff to provide your child with a high level of care. All staff have been background checked to international safeguarding standards and are CPR, first-aid and Safeguarding trained.

WHAT ARE THE FEES?

*Application Fee $202 (non-refundable)
*Registration & Miscellaneous Fee $505 (non-refundable)
*Boarding Fee $15,140 per semester
(billed per semester, together with school fees)
Deposit for Oldham House $3,000 (refundable)

*The fees include GST.

There will be no price differentiation for 4-, 3- and 2-bedders. Grades 11 and 12 receive priority for 2-bedders.

WHAT DO THE FEES INCLUDE?

Boarding fees include breakfast and dinner on school days, and all 3 main meals during the weekends and Singapore public holidays. Fees also include guardianship of SAIS-appointed staff, air-conditioning in the bedrooms, laundry service and medical insurance.

WHO WILL BE GUARDIAN TO MY CHILD?

Stamford American’s staff will act as guardian to your child. They will attend parent-teacher conferences and see to your child’s needs on your behalf. Our boarding staff will work closely with academic faculty to ensure timely interventions on your child’s progress at school.

WHERE IS YOUR BOARDING FACILITY?

We have chosen ACS Oldham Hall Premier Boarding as our boarding partner. They are centrally located in the Bukit Timah residential district at 80 Barker Road, with easily accessible amenities such as supermarkets, bookshops, convenience stores, eateries and a clinic. It is walking distance to buses stops and MRT stations including the North-South line, Downtown and circle lines.

HOW FAR IS IT TO THE SCHOOL?

Stamford Boarding House is only 15 minutes away from our Woodleigh campus by car and is easily accessible by public bus and MRT on the Downtown MRT Line.

We provide shuttle bus services for our students. There will be fees applicable.

WHAT FACILITIES ARE THERE AT THE BOARDING HOUSE?

Study rooms, common rooms, pantries, dining hall, table-tennis tables and music practice rooms. Access to Sports hall, basketball court, tennis court, futsal court and swimming pool over the weekends. Due to COVID-19 protocols, there may be some restrictions.

CAN I VISIT MY CHILD AT THE BOARDING HOUSE? WHO CAN VISIT THE BOARDING HOUSE?

Immediate family members may visit the boarding house before curfew hours. Any visitors to the boarding house are required to register at the front office. You will need to be accompanied by either a staff member or your child while you are at the boarding house. 

* Due to COVID-19 protocols, parents and visitors are not allowed to enter the premises.

CAN MY CHILD STAY AT BOARDING OVER THE TERM BREAKS?

Yes. We understand that you could be traveling for work during your child’s term breaks and require them to stay on at the boarding house then. If you need such an arrangement to be made, please inform boarding staff at least 2 weeks in advance.

*Semester breaks: Do note that Stamford American boarding staff will also be on their breaks if you extend your child’s stay during common holiday periods in July/August and December/January. During these periods, boarders who stay on at the boarding house will come under the direct care of ACS Oldham Hall staff. Payment is direct to Oldham Hall, subject to approval and availability of rooms.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD IS UNWELL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT?

Residential staff are on-site to respond to any emergencies after lights out. If necessary, they will take your child to the nearest hospital with pediatric services where medical professionals to attend to him/her. The nearest hospitals are KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) and National University Hospital (NUH).

IS YOUR BOARDING HOUSE CO-ED?

Yes

WHO WILL MY CHILD SHARE ROOM WITH? IF I HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHILD AT YOUR BOARDING HOUSE, CAN MY CHILDREN ROOM TOGETHER?

Boarders will be roomed together with fellow Stamford American students. If you have children of the same gender staying at boarding, you can request that they stay the same room together.

DO THE BOYS AND GIRLS ROOM IN THE SAME BLOCK?

Boys and girls are housed by floors and their biometrics only allow them access to their designated floor and room.

IS YOUR BOARDING FACILITY WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?

While certain parts of the boarding house are accessible by ramp, the rooms are not wheelchair accessible.

WHAT HAPPENS AT BOARDING WHEN MY CHILD RETURNS FROM SCHOOL?

Boarders are expected to return from school daily between 4pm to 5pm. The time they have before dinner can be used for unwinding after school and cleaning up. Boarding schedule will be available upon request. To inquire, please fill in the form here.

WHAT HAPPENS AT BOARDING DURING THE WEEKEND?

Monthly outings and bonding activities will be organized for boarders. These are not compulsory although boarders are encouraged to participate as often as they can.

IS THERE INTERNET ACCESS AT THE BOARDING HOUSE?

Yes

DO MY CHILDREN HAVE TO CHECK-IN THEIR DEVICES AT NIGHT? DO YOU HAVE A DEVICE/SCREENTIME CURFEW?

Yes. There is a screentime curfew for all internet-enabled devices (mobile phones, tablets, laptops). A good night’s rest is important for an effective and engaged day at school.

During study time (7.30pm to 9.30pm), boarders are not to use their handphone or laptop unless for study purposes.  After lights out, no handphones or laptops are to be used.

WHAT TIME DO THE STUDENTS WAKE UP EACH MORNING?

Students are expected to be up by 6:00am and have breakfast by 7:00am on school days.

WHEN DO THEY RETIRE TO BED?

Lights out at 11pm daily. For PCS and MS students, lights out is at 10pm.

Students who wish to continue studying after these hours may seek for permission to do so.

WILL THERE BE SOMEONE WHO SUPERVISE THEIR STUDIES AT THE BOARDING HOUSE?

Yes. Students who require supervision for the completion of their daily assigned work will report to the study hall for evening prep sessions. A residential staff will be present to ensure that they complete their work in a timely fashion for submission the next day.

WHAT IF MY CHILD NEEDS HELP WITH SCHOOL WORK WHILE AT BOARDING?

If your child has work that he/she needs help with, arrangements will be made with his/her subject tutor at school for extra help during school hours.

CAN I ENGAGE A PRIVATE TUTOR FOR MY CHILD AT BOARDING?

Yes.

ARE THERE FACILITIES FOR MUSIC LEARNING AND PRACTICE AT THE BOARDING HOUSE?

Music rooms are available for private practice sessions. Rooms can be booked ahead of time for a 60-minute session each time.
