Girls at Stamford American International School just want to have STEM!
November 3rd, 2017 – To celebrate the International Day of the Girl, Mastercard organized a Girls4Tech event across the globe this October. In Singapore, Mastercard chose to showcase this at Stamford American International School’s very own Innovation Center. The Mastercard team guided our Grade 5 girls through an experiential STEM-based curriculum, where the students applied their knowledge of Math and Science concepts to solve real-life challenges. Coordinated by the Head of Educational Technology at Stamford, Mr Craig Kemp, Girls4Tech is Mastercard’s signature education program designed for young girls around the world. Craig explains, “There is a common misconception that technology is for boys. This opportunity with Mastercard showed that technology has no gender bias and girls can not only have fun but excel in it,”. A champion in the payments technology, Mastercard’s hopes to inspire girls to acquire STEM skills and learn about potential STEM careers available to them through these engagements. Mastercard believes additional exposure and motivation will encourage young girls to pursue studies in this area. Stamford’s own ethos to empower all children to be all that they can be, echoes well with Mastercard’s Girls4Tech program.
