Mr. Eric McDonald
Music Teacher
Mr. Eric McDonald was a professional musician before becoming a teacher. He was a pianist, composer and arranger and worked as both a classical musician and as a jazz musician before turning his passion to teaching.
Nearly 30 years ago, Mr. McDonald began his teaching career with the Inner London Education Authority teaching Secondary Level music in London. Mr. McDonald relocated to Singapore in 1989 and began working as a Music Lecturer at La Salle School of the Arts before transitioning to an international school using the IB Primary Years Program (PYP). Mr. McDonald specialized in the introduction of instruments to the upper Elementary grades.
Mr. McDonald believes that students engage more with music when motivated through giving concerts and other performances, playing in ensembles and singing in choirs. Mr. McDonald is an active performer himself and continues to develop his own skills in singing and playing and believes this motivates his students in their own music journey. Mr. McDonald looks forward to continuing to develop the Instrumental Program at Stamford to complement the creative music curriculum within the PYP.
