Welcome to the Stamford American International School! It is with great pleasure I share information about our brand new school. Conveniently located on Lorong Chuan,SAIS opened its doors to students from eighteen nationalities on August 17, 2009 for families looking for an American school with U. S. standards that possesses a distinct international feel. Students enrolled in our Nursery (age two) to Grade 5 elementary experience an American curriculum which is integrated with the IPC (International Primary Curriculum). The IPC is a skills based curriculum which has a focus on knowledge, skills , and understanding.

If you were to stroll onto our campus and into our classrooms, you would see students happily engaged in a plethora of learning activities. Activities that cultivate the natural curiosity we believe exist in all children. Fostering their curiosity will help them become life-long learners who take ownership of their learning. Our teachers are the guides in this process, and go to great lengths to develop the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being in each child.  Behind our holistic approach there exists a strong emphasis on relationships. At SAIS we strongly believe that forging meaningful relationships is essential to maximizing a student’s learning experience. Knowing a child will also help teachers to differentiate their teaching so they are better able to target the individual needs of all the students.

The core subjects are taught by grade level homeroom teachers. Students in grades K1 – 6 attend specialist classes for art, music, physical education, and IT two times a week. For students in nursery and Pre-k the specialist teachers visit their classrooms. A unique feature at SAIS is the foreign language program. All students receive their choice of either Mandarin or Spanish. In addition, ELL and learning support teachers work closely with the classroom teachers to provide assistance where needed. We believe children learn best by exposing them to many experiences, building on their prior and newfound/newly aquired knowledge, and reflecting on their experiences.

Along with high academic standards, SAIS has an emphasis on building character. Our teachers focus on developing respectful and responsible students. This is done by infusing daily lessons with personal goals such as inquiry, resilience, cooperation, thoughtfulness, adaptability etc. These personal goals refer to those individual qualities and dispositions children will find essential in the 21st century. These qualities will enable children to be at ease with the continually changing context of their lives. Our students show case these traits during the school day and at after school activities. What you know is important, but who you are is equally as pertinent.

Preparing our students for the future is our primary task. Many of the jobs our students will be involved in do not exist today. Knowing this, we set out to equip students with a broad knowledge base, a multitude of skills, and a conceptual understanding of the world in which they live. This, coupled with a strong purpose of creating caring, responsible, and international minded students is what SAIS is all about.

I hope by reading this brief overview you were able to get a feel for what life is like at SAIS. However, I encourage you to get a first hand view and see for yourself what we are all about. We welcome your visit and I would be happy to meet with you. You will learn firsthand what makes SAIS a special place.
