SAIS Welcomes Mr. Obama Ndesandjo - News Clippings

Posted in Stamford in the News by Maribel Bawa on 21 October 2010

We are honored that Mr. Mark Okoth Obama Ndesandjo has agreed to visit our school to address our parents and students on Wednesday, October 27. Mr. Obama Ndesandjo is an accomplished pianist, writer, artist and businessman. In addition to the release of his three piano CDs, he recently published his first book, Nairobi to Shenzhen, a semi-autobiographical account of his experience starting a new life in a new land.  He also was honored as Goodwill Ambassador for the China Special Olympics and as a Volunteer Image Ambassador by the Chinese Government.

An American citizen, Mr. Obama Ndesandjo grew up in Kenya and was educated in the US before moving to Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China.  He has embraced the Chinese culture and is an advanced Mandarin speaker and writer, as well as an avid brush calligrapher.

Mr. Obama Ndesandjo is committed to improving the lives of disadvantaged children, particularly orphans.  Since 2003, he has regularly taught music to orphans in Shenzhen as well as raised money to support their needs.

His talk will focus on the importance of having and following one’s dreams and how social responsibility is crucial for building a better world.  Also, in line with SAIS’s values of volunteerism and community outreach, our students will share with Mr. Obama Ndesandjo the results of their own fundraising drive to support Pakistan flood victims.

On behalf of Stamford American International School, it is our pleasure to invite you to join us on this very special occasion.  We are confident this will be a memorable day for both you and your children.
