Grade 4 SAIS Design Project winners!
Posted in SAIS News by Kate Reynolds on 09 December 2011Grade 4 completed an inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express our ideas, concentrating on the use of words and images and how they affect the way we think, feel and act.
In visual Art students inquired into the use of symbols and imagery in logos. Learning how logos are a form of persuasion and communication, using intelligent imagery and colors to promote products and companies.
Grade 4 were transformed into Graphics Designers commissioned to design a new logo for SAIS. They were given a design brief to create a new exciting logo for SAIS, using the Text and images which represent our school and its community. They also had the opportunity to use the Sketchbook application on the IPad to understand the elements and principles of designing using technology. There were a number of great designs but we've highlighted the top entries here including our winners: Jin, Justin and Olivia whose work will be displayed in Reception. Well done Grade 4!
Stamford Tae Kwon Do
Posted in SAIS News by Kate Reynolds on 12 November 2011On Saturday, November 12, seventeen members of the Stamford Tae Kwon Do CCA performed at Gymfest 2011. Gymfest was a locally-held international festival celebrating sports in everyday life. The students from Stamford performed white-belt basics in front of a crowd of about 500 people.
Gymfest was a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate what they have learned through the first season of our CCAs. There was a large crowd along with very supportive parents to cheer them on. "I'm very proud. Our students did a great job representing themselves and Stamford." said Brian Ossmann, Stamford Tae Kwon Do coach.
Stamford sponsored Charity Art Auction
Posted in SAIS News by Kate Reynolds on 10 November 2011The Stamford American sponsored Charity Art Auction held on Thursday, November 10th was a HUGE success. The auctioneer, Mr. Jehan Chu, came specially from Hong Kong to participate in the event and did an excellent job prompting some lively bidding. There were 2 pieces of art donated by Stamford American and both were in high demand. The student piece was contributed by 2 very talented Grade 6 students, Jane Kim and Kathy Park, and received an impressive winning bid of $700! Our Art Teacher Sarah Johnson donated the second piece entitled Autumn Leaves which had a tremendous winning bid of $2,000! Stamford will be matching both bids and 100% of the funds will to the Children's Cancer Foundation, a total of $5,400 generated by Stamford! Many thanks to our artists for their donations and to everyone who attended for their contributions to a great evening and a great cause.
Stamford Halloween Fest 2011
Posted in SAIS Events by Kate Reynolds on 28 October 2011For the third year in a row, the Stamford PTA has blown everyone away with their creativity and attention to detail by throwing an absolutely amazing Halloween Fest. The event began with some special activities for our Early Years students including pumpkin bowling and a full size maze. Through out the evening there were all kinds of games, tattoos and facepainting, great snacks and food, and of course Trunk or Treating in the parking lot! There was a haunted house that was the scariest yet and also a special Monster Mash Tent for our Middle School students to dance and have some special activities. The costumes were incredibly inventive and only added to the excitement of the evening. What a great night - too bad it only comes once a year!
A special thank you goes out to all our hardworking PTA members who helped to make the night such a success!
