Curriculum
Stamford American International School is a unique, world class school in Singapore for boys and girls of all nationalities. Everything we do is designed to help your child achieve their absolute best academically as well as attaining happiness, contentment, confidence and a wider understanding of the world around them – enabling each student to go on and take their place as a successful ‘world citizen’. This is reflected in our ethos, guiding statements and our vision.
Highlights
The best of American and International learning
SAIS offers American curriculum based on United States national standards alongside international curriculum. SAIS is a candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that SAIS believes is important for our students. The combination of curricula helps to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills of each student to help them live, learn and work in our increasingly globalized world.
* Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as IB World Schools can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme. Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
Strength in Languages
To help foster a wider geographic and cultural perspective and broaden cross-cultural communication, all children receive daily Mandarin or Spanish lessons beginning at age 2. Daily reinforcement helps our students to develop fluency in their chosen language. Additionally, our English as an Additional Language (EAL) program assists students for whom English is not their primary language.
Internationalism
Our name suggests internationalism ... a visit confirms it. Not just in the curriculum or the focus on languages, but the wide range of nationalities here. While about 50% of of students are from North America, our student body also represents over 40 different nationalities, a diversity we celebrate.
Low student-to-teacher Ratio
As SAIS continues to grow, class sizes will be a priority with none exceeding a teacher/pupil ratio of 11:1 in Kindergarten 1 and above. An even lower ratio in Nursery (5:1) and Pre-Kindergarten (9:1) is maintained. Ultimately SAIS will grow to approximately 2,500 students but low ratios are a feature that won’t be changing.
Superb Location
Our central location is highly convenient, with many children travelling to and from school on the door-to-door bus service. It is also ideal for parents’ visits, which are always welcomed.
Creating a Passion for Learning...
At SAIS we create and encourage a passion for learning, right from the start. Our curricula is concept-based, building on your child’s natural curiosity not only with formal content but by introducing a broad range of associated, ‘real’ experiences. This creates a solid platform for information and concepts which students will build on both while at SAIS and for the rest of their lives.
Our holistic approach to education ensures that your child’s physical wellbeing, social aptitude, self belief and appreciation of global cultures and wider issues are treated with as much importance as their academic achievements.
Our high standard of education is made possible through the combination of highly skilled and qualified teaching staff, our ethos of building caring and constructive relationships with each of the children and their families, as well as the resources in which we have invested to support the broadest range of learning – inside and outside the classroom.
SAIS’ teaching and management staff offer remarkable experiences in their respective fields as well as sharing a common aim – to bring out the very best in your child. Our parent group, Cognita, also provides an immense pool of knowledge as it currently operates over 60 schools around the world including schools in Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam as well as in North America, the UK and Europe.
... and a readiness for the future!
Your child will receive a well-rounded preparation for life, meaning they’ll be empowered to take control of their future rather than trusting it to chance. The world will be a very different place even by the time your child leaves school – how we communicate, travel, generate energy, feed our populations and conduct business will have changed. It has been said that up to 80% of jobs in 2020 don’t exist right now. It’s an exciting future and one which SAIS students will be ready to grasp with eager anticipation.
